Young Township to receive American Rescue Plan funds

YOUNG TWP. — The Young Township supervisors have submitted an application for the American Rescue Plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

Mike Defelice, supervisors chairman, said at Wednesday’s meeting the money should be deposited in the township’s bank account this month.

Defelice said there is a formula required to determine where the township can utilize the funds. In other business: • Sewage report: Terry Hibbard said the new hoses have arrived for the suction pumps.

He said replacement risers have been purchased to replace those that were damaged.

The township’s decals have been installed on the side-by-side, and a strobe light has been ordered for visibility.

New manhole seals and pans are on order to prevent stormwater infiltration.

• Code enforcement report: Tom Barber, code enforcement officer, said there were five complaints.

He said four have been resolved and one is still being investigated, as the

owner is not responding to phone calls.

• Fire-damaged home: Residents who live near the house burned back in November were in attendance.

Mark Martino wanted to know how soon the home would be demolished. “I want to see it on paper because every meeting I come to is a different story,” Martino said.

Barber said told them it was going to take a year.

“I call Jay (Lundy), the solicitor, every month to see if there’s anything they can do to speed the process along,” Barber said. “Jay said no, that they’re still doing their investigation and there are different things going on.”

Barber said the supervisors aren’t going to give anyone anything concrete until Lundy has something to go on.

“When we get something, we’ll present it,” Barber said. “We’re as anxious to get that property demolished as everyone else.”

The next meeting of the Young Township supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the municipal building near Walston.
