Robert Aber Haag, 91

Robert Aber Haag, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born on May 18, 1930, at home on the farm in Oliver Township, a son of the late William A. Haag and Alice (Aber) Haag.

Mr. Haag is a United States Navy veteran who served his country during the Korean conflict.

On July 14, 1956, he married his sweetheart, Thelma Gladys Beresnyak. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Mr. Haag was a member of John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

Bob was the manager at Agway for nearly 30 years. When he left his day job, he went home and worked his own farm with his wife by his side. He was the true definition of a Paul Harvey’s Farmer, “a man who in planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon, then pain’n from ‘tractor back,’ put in another 72 hours. So God made Bob a Farmer. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk and replenish the selffeeder and finish a hard week’s work with a mile drive to church. So God made Bob a Farmer.”

In addition to his wife, Thelma, he is survived by three sons, Robert Allen “Grover” Haag and wife Monica of Punxsutawney, William Joseph Haag and wife Tammy of Punxsutawney, and Edward Sean Haag and wife Sharon of North Carolina; daughter-in-law Lisa Haag-Smith; seven grandchildren, Robert Haag III, Brian Haag, Trista Pooley, Phillip Lewis, Jesse Haag, Cory Haag and Cheriee Tom; nine great-grandchildren, Deven Haag, Jayden, Brooklyn and Gavin Pooley, Lillian Haag, Nathaniel, Madilyn, Matthew and Jackson Tom; one brother, John Haag of Big Run; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Kenneth Eugene Haag; three brothers, William Roy Haag, Frederick Haag and Harvey Haag; two sisters, Margaret Smith and Lillian Bish.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at Oliveburg Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, officiated by Pastor Glenn McQuown.

Interment will be at Oliveburg Cemetery.
