Lady Chucks volleyball takes 3-0 win against Brockway

BROCKWAY — The Punxsutawney Lady Chucks volleyball team was on the road this past Thursday night to Brockway, and after three sets, Punxsy was headed back home with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) sweep of the Lady Rovers.

"Overall, we played well,” said Punxsy Coach Glenn Good, “We played with a lot more consistency then we have in some of our games.”

He added, “We have the ability to maintain this, and it is up to the girls to keep this going."

In the first set, Brockway took a 5-3 lead, but the Lady Chucks answered right back to lead 13-7. Punxsy added in four more points before the Lady Rovers got back in the action. However, the visiting team kept their heads up to finish the set 25-17.

In the following set, the Lady Chucks took command of the court to tally a 9-3 advantage before Lexi Poole stepped up to the service line, and Punxsy scored eight more points to make things 17-4. The Lady Rovers found some momentum, but it wasn’t enough to take the set, as again, the visiting team took it 25-15.

The final set saw both teams go at it, as it looked to be Brockway’s set, but the Lady Chucks came back to tie up a 13-point deficit. Punxsy’s Ciara Toven then added in six more points, three of which came from service aces, to help round out the final set 25-17.

For the Lady Chucks, Danielle Griebel had 17 set assists, and Samantha Griebel had eight kills. Emma Galando had 11 digs, while Alyssa Campbell had five. Also, Toven had four kills and six aces.

For the JV Lady Chucks, things went their way also, as they bested Brockway 25-11, 25-15.

“After the past couple of games where we didn't play well, they got back into what we saw to start the season, that is, a lot of talking on the court and a lot of team work,” said JV Coach Kali Toven.
