Mae Jean Kennedy, 87

Mae Jean Kennedy, 87, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Sprankle Mills, a daughter of the late Andrew P. and Florence Burkett. On March 7, 1956, she married Abraham A. Kennedy, who survives.

She was a member of the Ramsaytown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, puzzles, word searches and teaching her children, when they were young, about the constellations.

Mrs. Kennedy worked for Cameron making tubes for several years before her children were born.

In addition to her husband, Abraham, she is survived by three sons, James Kennedy and wife Deborah of Cranberry Township, Stephen Kennedy and wife Lorrie of Granger, Indiana, and Kevin Kennedy and wife Wendy of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Pamela Shuler and husband Sidney, Lisa Pentland and husband Keith, Kathleen Conway and husband Kyle, Adam Kennedy and wife Erin, Nicholas Kennedy and fiancé D’eja, Stephanie Powers and husband William, and Andrew and Phillip Kennedy; six great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Lydia Pentland, Eleanor and Beatrice Shuler and Elliot and Avery Kennedy; and a brother, Jerry Burkett and wife Dee of Erie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Kennedy, five brothers, Stanley, Richard, Herbert, Bobby and Everett Burkett, and two sisters, Genevieve Miller and Myrna Smith.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, where a funeral service will be held immediately following visitation beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Donald Brauer officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
