Punxsy Jr. High track takes part in Altoona Championships

ALTOONA — The Punxsutawney junior high track and field team had several members of the program, who made the qualifying marks, take part in the Altoona Middle School Championship on Saturday.

For the girls, Adelynn Lewis took second in the pole vault with a mark of 8-0. “She had a great day in the pole vault, and she cleared her best height this season,” said Punxsy girls coach Krista Lowry.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Lewis, Breeana Bergreen, Olivia Toven and Maggie Guidice took fourth with a time of 4:34.35.

“The girls ran their best time this season despite the rain that came down during the last event on the track,” said Lowry.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Lewis, Bergreen, Toven and Guidice also raced to fourth with a time of 11:08.27. “Each girl ran their best split, which resulted in such a great time,” added Lowry.

All four were also part of the 4x100-meter dash that paced eighth with a time of 54.99, which was a seasonal best.

For the boys, the team as a whole took fifth with a score of 43.5.

In the triple jump, Adam Manners took first with a mark of 38-6.75 that was also a new personal best. Manners also took fourth in the long jump (18-6) and tied for fourth in the high jump (5-2).

Logan Moore had a mark of 18-7.5 in the long jump for a second-place finish and a personal best. Moore also placed ninth in the pole vault with a mark of 7-6, and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (46.24) for a personal best.

In the javelin, Evan Presloid came in third with a throw of 132-9, while Jordan Rutan took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.87 and a new personal best.

"I'm very proud of our team, and you can't ask for anything more than to go out and have your best performance when it matters the most,” said Punxsy boys coach Jason Grusky. “It's a very satisfying feeling to end the season on a high note."

Other results: 110-meter hurdles: Jordan Rutan (11th, 18.40); 400-meter dash: Adin Bish (16th, 59.90, personal best), Nathan Leeman (30th, 1:03.70, personal best); 800-meter run: Adin Bish (21st, 2:31.21); 3,200meter run: Chris Setree (22nd, 12:39.01, personal best by 20 seconds); triple jump: Evan Presloid (7th, 35-2.5, personal best); shot put: Abe Santos (31st, 29-10); discus: Abe Santos (18th, 93-3, personal best); javelin: Abe Santos (33rd, 87-2), Nolan Lewis (51st, 70-3).
